It’s the Oscar’s the Recap

Well the 81st Annual Academy Awards took place last night and it was quite an event…..Many of the people who won their awards were expected but there were a few surprises.  Like Sean Penn winning Best Actor…….I love the set up of the stage and how they had five of the past actors for each category to come up and present to the winners. Hugh Jackman who was the host, was very funny and knew how to revitalize the crowd when the show started to get a little slow.  Here are some pictures and a list of the winners of the night!!!!

The New York Post Spreading Messages of Hate

February 21, 2009 at 10:50 am (In The News, Obama) (, , )

(Courtesy of Google Images)

This is a cartoon that the New York Post ran in this week’s paper. Now I am not one of these people that think that everything is about race in America but this is stepping over the line..

First of all I KNOW the staff at the New York Post are very well read and in saying this, I also KNOW that they knew what this would mean. Think about it. During times of slavery Blacks were treated as if they were less than human. Blacks throughout history have also been compared to monkeys on several occasions as a reference that they were clumsy or stupid like a monkey is often looked at in America.

Then this unbelievably dumb claim that this “monkey” in the strip is not our current President Barack Obama. Come on now!!!!!! I am personally not even outraged but truly shocked that the New York Post, a major publication, had the balls to even run something like this in their paper. How is the public, which is not filled with morons, supposed to think? The caption says it all. That “monkey” is supposed to be our President Barack Obama. I mean we all know who wrote the first stimulus bill. So if someone would have to write the next one like the caption explains, then the person they have shot obviously wrote the first one. I mean does this publication really think we are stupid in America.

This is our President of the United States and he should not have to deal with petty things such as these. I do not care if everyone does not like the fact that he is the President because the general public will never agree on anything as a whole, but when you have news conglomerates spreading these underlying subliminal messages there is a problem. We have not had any other problems of this sort with our other President’s, I wonder why? What makes this President so different?

As a aspiring journalist myself, I have to ask the question. Where was the managing editor when all of this was going down? I mean that is the last person who sees the paper before it goes out to the printer. Also how could  no one speak up in the office and say that this was wrong? I mean if you know Black history then you know that calling a black person a monkey is a big NO NO….They might as well put the word N**** up there…They knew what they were doing and they need to print a retraction IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here are clips about this situation from Democracy Now….

The Dark Knight About to Break All Time Record????

February 21, 2009 at 10:38 am (In The News) (, )

I was doing some searching and I saw that “The Dark Knight” is close to breaking Titanic’s all time record for the highest grossing movie of all time. Titanic, which came out in 1997, holds the current record with 1.8 Billion dollars but the new Batman flick is creeping up slowly but steadily to take the top spot. It’s at  the 1 billion dollar mark as I type and is in fourth place of the all time highest grossing movies. So we shall see how this ends up…..All in all it was a great run for Titanic it’s held the record for about 12 years now. Here are the top 4 all time biggest grossing movies ever:

Titanic: 1.84 Billion

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King: 1.12 Billion

Project Runway is Coming Back!!!

I am so happy that  I found this because America’s Next Top Model is coming back in March I think, and I have been wondering about my other fav fashion show; Project Runway. I have not seen any type of anything for this show…Anyway, here is the skinny.

Project Runway is taping the entire season of the shows at once then they are going to play them. They are almost done as well. Now I know the show had a legal issue that it was dealing with and this is the sole reason that I believe the show is functioning in this manner. So when they finish taping the Season Finale then the show will officially start to air…

Now one might wonder how are they going to keep the finalist of the show a secret at fashion week this year where the finale will be taped? They have decided to show at least 8 different (lesser known) designers and this is how the show will keep the media off of the trail of the finalist. This is really smart of the show and I cannot wait for it to come back….YAY!!!!

Rihanna Abuse Picture Finally Released!!!!!

February 20, 2009 at 9:26 am (In The News, Musical Corner, Pop Culture) (, , , )

Now this happened over two weeks ago and I am wondering if this was recently taken or taken right after she was beaten and just never released? The reason I ask this question is because if this is more recent then the wounds were worse when this when it first happened….Can you imagine your boyfriend doing this to you????

(Courtesy of TMZ.com)

(Courtesy of TMZ.com)

Now this may be a problem for TMZ.com because I have just gotten word that an investigation is going down because this photo was leaked. Meaning it was not supposed to be released just yet and that somebody gave it to TMZ.com. The LAPD is doing a serious search to find who ever did this…I will keep you guys updated on this as usual but this is so sad….

Any thoughts?????

American Idol Recap According to E!Online

February 19, 2009 at 12:37 pm (In The News, Musical Corner, Pop Culture) (, , , , )

Ok I really am not going to be into this show until the official top twelve have been picked so here is what E!Online is reporting about what happened last night on the show…

Good news or bad, we knew Tatiana Del Toro was going to be an emotional wreck.

She didn’t disappoint on that front. But we bet thousands of fans ended up pretty bummed anyway as the results started rolling in—there’s always a favorite who doesn’t make it through.

In what may be the most intriguing of the stalwart series’ season-eight format changes (certainly more intriguing than the addition of a fourth judge, anyway), the top guy and girl from last night’s performance show—along with the next-highest vote getter—were admitted into American Idol’s Top 12 Wednesday.

Also an improvement—instead of making the castoffs relive their low points, the trio who advanced provided the encore performances.

But for the real twist, check out who advanced, contrary to what our commenters predicted…

The fans seemed to love Anoop Desai, but about 20,000 more of the 24 million votes cast landed in Michael Sarver’s camp instead.

The 27-year-old oil-rig roughneck defied judges’ expectations by winning a spot in the Top 12 with his karaoke-ready rendition of Gavin DeGraw’s “I Don’t Wanna Be.”

But don’t count out Anoop Dogg just yet. He might not have to wake up from his present dream if he was the third-place finisher among the guys last night, or if the judges select him to compete in the March 5 Wild Card sing-off—and there’s a very good possibility of that, considering how much they like him.

Meanwhile, last night’s standouts, Alexis Grace, 21, and Danny Gokey, 28, sailed on through to the promised land.

Trying to milk the (lack of) suspense for all it was worth, Ryan Seacrest trotted out Danny and Tatiana at the same time, making us wonder for a second whether the front-runner was about to fall victim to the “I don’t need to vote for him because everyone else is going to” trap. He didn’t, though. Tatiana looked as if she was about to pass out but, like Anoop, there could be another last chance in her future.

The next group of 12—Megan Corkrey, Kris Allen, Mishavonna Henson, Matt Breitzke, Allison Iraheta, Matt Giraud, Jasmine Murray, Kai Kalama, Jesse Langseth, Adam Lambert, Jeanine Vailes and Nick Mitchell—performs next Wednesday.

I did think Anoop was going to get through over Michael because I feel he has a much better voice, but that’s America for you…The one thing that will be extremely interesting is which one of the people who did not make it last night get through to the wild card show….Will it be Anoop or Tatiana because I think they can only pick one from each group of three…See, this is why I do not like this format and I decide to skip it all until the official twelve have been announced

Here are the audio clips of the performance from last night

Danny Gokey- Hero

Alexis Grace- Never Loved a Man

Michael Sarver- I Don’t Wanna Be

India Arie Album Review

February 19, 2009 at 12:25 pm (Album Reviews) (, )

(Courtesy of Google Images)

Thoughtful lyrics, beautiful vocals, interesting tempos and inspirational messages are the things that bring India Arie to mind. These four essential qualities are still in tacked on her latest effort entitled “Testimony: Vol 2, Love and Politics.” The one thing that Arie has always lacked is commercial appeal but with this latest disc it is starting to surface. She has finally found the perfect mix that so many others have neglected to acquire over their one dimensional careers. Having up tempo, radio friendly tracks mixed with beautiful mid tempo’s and ballads that still carry the signature Arie message. Judging from her first single “Chocolate High”, which features the talented Musiq Soulchild, Arie is finally ready to move closer to mainstream success. She has grown vocally as well, like she needed to, because her voice seems smoother than ever over the elegant melodies that are incorporated on her songs throughout the album.

Standouts are many on the album because the record takes the listener on journey that is hard to leave behind. Almost as if the disc is a roller coaster that the listener never wants to end. Arie evokes feelings of all types ranging from love and relationships to social and economic issues that concern our world today. She seems to always write with the current state of the world in the back of her mind. “Therapy” is a track that expresses the notion that a person relies on another to provide them with a sane mind. It is an upbeat feel good track that starts off the album. Arie has often missed this type of song since her debut single “Radio”, which is from her 2001 debut album “Acoustic Soul”. “He Heals Me” explores the feeling of an overjoyed female who is held together by her man. “The Cure” is a song in which she focuses on the fact that a disease is bigger than a virus or anything of that nature. In fact she exclaims “the worst disease in the world is hate and the cure for hate is love”. It is one of those songs that really make a person think.

India.Arie is one of those rare talents that is often under appreciated in the electro crazed, 808 world of R&B today. Arie is known for great types of R&B tracks throughout her albums and her musicality is second to few in the industry. Her songs incorporate a number of instruments including the guitar, drums, harp, and piano. Oh yes this is real music for the ages, almost like an up to date Motown experience.

This is a disc which will still be around for years and years to come and is versatile enough to be timeless but groovy at the same instant. Arie has also remained true to her R&B roots and still manages to give the listener current R&B songs. Some artists like Solange and Rapheal Saadiq, have produced a more traditional R&B album within the last year taking it back to an old school R&B sound. Even though they gained respect from the critics the problem is they have failed commercially to sell a substantial amount of records. Arie will most likely not fall into this type of trap with an album like this.

I give it 4 out of 5 Stars

Here are some clips of some of the song that I mentioned in the article

No More Edie on Desperate Housewives!?!?!?!

February 18, 2009 at 6:06 pm (In The News, Pop Culture) ()

Desperate Housewives don’t do this to me..I just feel the show will not be complete without ALL of the characters. I mean damn it!!!!!!!!!!! This is going to be a mess… My theory is this, every time the head B**** of a show leaves the shows days are numbered. I mean it has happened so many times. The evil girl on each show drives the plot of it and keeps things interesting…Well anyway here is what HollywoodInsider.com is reporting

During her five years on Wisteria Lane, Edie Britt has survived a tornado, hanging, icy stares from her neighbors — and annual rumors that she was on her way out. Yet for better or worse, Edie’s alter ego, Nicollette Sheridan, seems used to this job insecurity. At a press event for Desperate Housewives last July, Sheridan told reporters, “[Creator Marc Cherry] tries to kill Edie every year.” While Cherry quickly interjected that his show’s resident vixen wasn’t going anywhere — “She’s like a bad boomerang; she just keeps coming back” — this time, the speculation is true. In the coming weeks, the 45-year-old actress will shoot her final scene on the hit series, according to ABC. Sure, Edie “left” the hood at the end of last season as part of Housewives’ five-year jump into the future. But her latest impending departure — which will air in April — is for real.

Edie’s unexpected farewell caps a successful but rocky tenure for Sheridan. The actress’ self-absorbed character has stayed one-dimensional since the show’s start in 2004, and with the addition of Dana Delany as Katherine Mayfair in 2007, there’s been less screen time to go around. As a result, Edie has often been pushed to the back burner. It’s no surprise, then, that talk of tension between Sheridan and Cherry has persisted over the years. (Cherry and Sheridan declined to comment; a rep for ABC Studios says: “Any rumors of on-set tension are ridiculous. This was strictly a creative decision. We love Nicollette and all that she has brought to the character of Edie.”)

Still, at last summer’s press conference, the duo weren’t exactly brimming with goodwill. When Cherry made the crack about Edie’s ability to rebound, Sheridan muttered, “Very nice. Charmed, I’m sure.” But she admitted that there are advantages to playing a tramp. “I’ve heard people love my character because she’s audacious,” she said. “They identify with that and want to be more like her.”

addCredit(“Ron Tom/ABC”)

Well, maybe not this season. Edie’s new husband, Dave Williams (Neal McDonough), has turned out to be a rage-aholic loon who plans to punish Mike Delfino (James Denton) for killing his first wife and child in a car accident. It seems likely that Edie, who has grown suspicious of her mentally unstable husband, could die at his hands. (An ABC Studios rep had no comment on a recent report that Edie will also perish in a car accident.) “Edie is definitely going somewhere,” McDonough tells EW. “But in the world of Marc Cherry, nothing is permanent.” Says one show insider, “This is a world of flash-forwards and flashbacks. There’s always a chance we’ll see Edie again.”

Oh No Edie Say it Ain’t So!!!!!
